Good News...or at least good advice!

If you want to be discovered, numerous ways to market yourself exist.  Most writers falter at this stage in the process.  Learn how to sell yourself and your material.  Practice your pitching skills.  Spend days, if not weeks perfecting your one-line, five-line, and one-page pitches.  Each serves a purpose and should be as interesting and inviting as your actual screenplay.  Prepare yourself like an actor might prepare for an audition.  The written and verbal pitch are the equivalent of a strong resume--they get your foot in the door.

What else can you do?  The following are ways to improve your chances of selling material.

1. Use the Academy Writers Clinic professional critique services to your advantage.  Perfect your material before unveiling it to the Hollywood community.  Don't fail to make an excellent first impression.
2. Post your material to the pitching cage, our free bulletin board for writers who wish to sell themselves and their material.  Let the internet work for you!
3. Enter screenwriting competitions like the American Accolades.  Production companies, managers, and agencies pay attention to the writers of screenplays that perform well.
4. Send query letters to agents and managers for representation.  You may require an entertainment attorney' s assistance in this process.  The Hollywood Agents and Managers Directory has an enormous list of potential representatives for your screenplay.
5. Send query letters to producers, directors, actors, actresses, and financiers. The Hollywood Creative Directory has an enormous list of production companies.  Caution:  many do not accept unsolicited material.
6. Pace yourself.  Don't quit your day job until you are sure it makes sense!  A stable income will allow you to perfect your craft over time, permitting you to make important contacts.

It is worth reiterating:  if you are eager to improve your story before subjecting it to the slings and arrows of the "real world," get your material evaluated by our professional staff.

Realize your story's potential.

Get professional, objective criticism prior to shopping your material in markets that only give you one chance. Our story analysis may provide you with the litmus test that makes the difference between your material being considered a good "calling card" and your story being purchased.
